All about….

What is the RCR Street Club? Why should I join?

The Street Club is a new ensemble whose primary goal is to provide an opportunity for anyone who:

  • can’t make the time or financial commitment to the drum corps (or is no longer age-eligible)

  • is looking to improve their skills on their current instrument or get better on a new one

  • just wants to continue performing in an ensemble during the summer

Who is this for?

Anyone who is looking to build on marching percussion or guard skills is welcome to participate

What will I learn? Will I be challenged?

The staff is committed to introducing new rudiments or choreo as the season progresses that will continue to challenge the members of the ensemble. The goal is to look and sound clean, while also improving. There will be a handful of cadences learned throughout the season; each one can be viewed similarly to a movement in a winter show in that there will be specific marching/body work done, and we’ll continue to work to make everything clean. All of the staff are former RCR members themselves and are very experienced instructors, teaching various ensembles in the summer, fall, and winter.

Is there an age limit?

No! While the average age will likely be high school, we are open to anyone who wishes to participate, whether it’s a middle schooler looking to pick up the activity, or someone who is aged out that misses performing and just wants to have something to do on the side.

Does it cost anything?

While auditions are free, the season cost per member is $350. This covers the uniform and transportation. Each member will be offered a contract that will lay out expectations of the group.

How long is the season?

Rehearsals will run only on Wednesday evenings, 6:00 – 9:00 (or until dark), and will conclude on August 13th. Parades are on most weekends throughout the summer. There will be around 30 total parades.

What if I have commitments, such as a job, high school band, or vacation that might interfere?

We know it’s the summer and that there are other commitments and we will work around them; however, we are hoping that contracted members can attend as many rehearsals and parades as possible.

How does parade sign up work? How do I know which ones I’m doing?

When you sign a contract, you’ll be asked for a list of conflicts which will help the staff figure out which parades you’ll be able to do so they can plan accordingly. How many parades you do will depend on your availability and how many other members there are; we want to make sure everyone is getting reps. It’s also important for a cohesive unit if the same people are marching together as often as possible. You will know well in advance which parades you’ll be signed up for, and of course if you have something come up at the last second, please communicate with the director. For this first year, all parades are no further than 120 miles away from Champlin Park High School; most are much closer.

It should be noted that each parade should be treated like a winter competition – if you are signed up for the parade, you are expected to be there.

Am I responsible for driving to the parades?

No – as part of your dues, we are renting a van that will bring everyone together, driven by a staff member, and then bringing the equipment in a small trailer. You will just be responsible for getting to Champlin Park on time before departure. Specific parade details will be communicated to you well in advance.
