Patrice Jones

PATRICE JONES is excited to return to River City Rhythm in a full-time capacity for the 2024 summer season. She is a highly requested Health & Wellness Coach with a background in Music Therapy, Music Performance, Psychology, and Performance and Health & Wellness Coaching with years of experience working with musician athletes. Currently based in Austin, TX, Patrice worked as a Certified Health and Wellness Coach/Team Coordinator for Vanguard Music and Performing Arts, overseeing the health and wellness of the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets and staff as they trained and won the Open Class division in Indianapolis in 2022. She actively works with Pacific Crest Drum Corps and has worked with winterguard groups in the Austin, TX, area.

Patrice possesses expertise in assessing physical, emotional, and mental issues, crafting hydration, treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery protocols, and employing alternative and complementary therapies like cupping, scraping (IASTM/Graston Technique), taping, and dry needling. She is well-trained in concussion assessment and recovery and incorporating various modalities for holistic health. Furthermore, Patrice holds certifications in nutrition and exercise physiology and brings with her access to certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians when the need arises. Her goal is to keep all members safe, healthy, and on the field!

Outside of this role, she runs Patrice Jones Coaching, where she has personally helped dozens of clients find their version of success and wellbeing. In her non-drum-corps life, Patrice works with people with chronic illnesses (both physical and mental) and chronic pain who wish to continue or improve various areas of their lives in the presence of conditions that impact their physical and mental states.

Patrice is a professionally trained Collaborative Pianist who has accompanied hundreds of instrumentalists, vocalists, and groups over the past 30 years. With experience in Classical (chamber, orchestral, band), Jazz, Broadway, Salsa, Country, Gospel, Religious, and Rock genres, Patrice is a certified performance coach who works with musicians of all ages and abilities and helps them with diction, intonation, expression, ensemble playing, performance mindset, and stage fright. Drum Corps is near and dear to her heart as a front ensemble player and percussionist.

Prior to these roles, Patrice was a member of the U.S. Army Band where she played piano, oboe and english horn, percussion, and euphonium/tuba and received medic training. In high school, she did winterguard, dance, and gymnastics. As such, she is uniquely qualified to assess and treat the physical injuries and illnesses of all drum corps members. Her BM in Music Therapy, BS in Psychology, and coaching certifications prepared her to address mental health in the current social environment. She will work with a member’s home mental health provider to ensure members continue using the customized plans laid out by those professionals that know the members best. Patrice is available to answer health questions and guide members in preparing their bodies and minds for the rigors of drum corps. She can be reached at healthteam@rivercityrhythm.org.
